A Master Bathroom Remodel on Two Different Budgets

While your budget most certainly impacts which renovations are possible in a master bathroom remodel, a smaller budget doesn’t mean you’re limited on style or luxury. Today we want to share with you two Portland-area bathroom remodels with drastically different budgets to illustrate how we can help you achieve a better functioning space that fits both your personal aesthetic and your budget.

Oregon City, Oregon Bathroom Remodel

Before and after of a bathroom with frosted glass doors and one with clear glass doors

This bathroom was plagued by old, brown carpeting that felt dingy; and an outdated shower with frosted glass doors and very little personality. To keep the budget down, we kept the existing tub deck tile and vanities so we could focus instead on addressing the shower and flooring. This remodel was slated for 2-4 weeks with a budget of $20,000.
The homeowners wanted an affordable bathroom remodel that embraced both modern and traditional styles. This influenced our decision to choose a classic white marble tile for the shower walls and a more modern hexagonal tile for the shower floor. We used Delta fixtures throughout this remodel and added glass shower doors to make the room feel large and clean – a truly timeless and Trendproof design. For added luxury we installed a Brizo body spray that is sure to soothe.

Happy Valley, Oregon Bathroom Remodel

Before and after of a poorly lit bathroom and one with brighter lighting, and white tile, cabinetry and walls
This bathroom was always spacious, but the homeowners were less than thrilled with the overall bathroom design. During the in-home consultation, they discussed master bathroom ideas that would be suitable for such a large space, as well as their preferred style and their remodel goals. These homeowners wanted the bathroom carpet removed and their large corner vanity updated because they didn’t like the odd and cumbersome design. This remodel was slated for 6 weeks with a total budget of $60,000.
The carpet was ripped out and other existing tile and installed Carrara marble for a luxurious and streamlined look and feel. The awkward vanity was replaced with a large twin vanity that comfortably accommodated the double sinks and wide mirror the clients wanted and needed. To create a true palace-like experience for these homeowners, we added two large columns by the bathtub and a gorgeous chandelier for added light and elegance.

Similarities Between the Two Remodels

Before and after of a small, white linoleum shower and a grey tiled shower
These two bathroom remodels had dramatically different budgets, and yet, many similarities can be seen between them:
Carpet Removal – With any sized budget, there are certain updates that can make a huge impact. One of these is removing carpet. Both bathroom remodels started with outdated carpet that we replaced with gorgeous tile throughout.
Marble Tile – At both price points, it was possible to update both bathrooms to include beautiful and luxurious marble tile showers and floors.
Luxury Showers – Both bathrooms already had wonderful, large tubs, but both homeowners took their showers to the next level with marble tile, modern fixtures, and built in shower storage.

Differences Between the Two Remodels

Before and after of a bathroom with brown carpet and one with grey tile
While these two Oregon bathroom remodels had a few similar features, there are many differences that kept these remodels at two different price points:

  • Vanities – While the Oregon City homeowners opted to keep their existing vanity, the Happy Valley homeowners added a brand new vanity with two sinks, a marble countertop, and beautiful drawer pulls.
  • Bathtub – The Oregon City homeowners also opted to keep their existing tub, fixtures, and tub deck tile. Keeping these features the same let them focus more budget on other portions of the remodel. The Happy Valley remodel kept the bathtub the same, but changed the shape and size of the tub deck, added new fixtures, and completely re-tiled the tub deck with marble.
  • Luxury Finishing Touches – The Happy Valley homeowners selected some luxurious features, like the Carrara marble tile used throughout, columns around the bathtub, and chandelier, and more.
