Pinterest can be an amazing source of inspiration, especially when it comes to bathroom remodels. But with so many ideas out there, it can be difficult to know which ones are winners and which ones may be more trouble than they’re worth. To help you differentiate the good ideas from the not-so-good ones, we have compiled a few Pinterest bathroom ideas that may not be worth your time.
Ornate Tile Designs

Detailed and unique tile designs are all the rage in bathrooms across the Pacific Northwest. Patterns like herringbone, basketweave, and windmill can all help to bring your bathroom design to the next level; but laying these tile designs by yourself can be a complicated process. If you are hoping to DIY one of these ornate tile patterns, it can be extremely difficult to get right, especially if you do not have experience laying tile.
If you are interested in including herringbone, basketweave, or any other detailed tile pattern in your bathroom design, we would recommend hiring a professional. An experienced tiler will be able to ensure that even the most complex pattern flows well throughout your space.

With the rise in popularity of white subway tile and light-colored marble, more and more homeowners have been opting for the all-white bathroom look. While this design is gorgeous and most definitely Pinterest-worthy, an all-white bathroom can be very difficult to maintain and keep clean.
If the light and bright look of an all-white bathroom is something you’re after, we would recommend opting for a dark colored grout, like grey or black, or selecting a light-colored tile that has flecks of other colors. Darker colored grout does not show stains as easily and can help to add dimension to an otherwise simple bathroom. A light-colored tile that includes hints of other colors can also help to mask some small stains or water drips, which means you will spend less time keeping your space spotless.

Reclaimed wood can give any room in your home a rustic and unique look. But we would recommend against bringing this much-loved Pinterest idea into your bathroom. While we love the natural look that reclaimed wood can bring to a room, it can be difficult to clean, especially in a space with as much moisture as the bathroom.
If you want to include reclaimed wood in your bathroom design, we would recommend treating the wood with a water-resistant protective coating and keeping these wood accents away from the shower, sink, and toilet areas. If you want this look without the worry, you could also consider Luxury Vinyl Tile, which can imitate the look of many different types of wood, but is water-resistant and easy to clean.
If you have spent any time on Pinterest, odds are that you may be considering a DIY project for you bathroom. While there are certain bathroom remodel tasks that are perfect to do yourself, like installing a new faucet or selecting a new paint color, not all remodel projects are as easy as Pinterest makes them seem. Many bathroom remodels involve very specialized tasks like plumbing, tiling, electrical work—all of which have the potential to go wrong.
If you are interested in a complete bathroom overhaul, we would recommend hiring a professional. If you’re still not sure if a DIY-bathroom remodel is right for you, make sure to check out our blog that offers 7 reasons to hire a professional for your bathroom remodel.
At the end of the day, every homeowner’s ideal bathroom is unique to them. Just because a Pinterest idea isn’t ideal for a bathroom remodel, doesn’t mean that you can’t find a way to make it work!
